Censorship and Visual Culture: Ruling Images, Shaping Societies online workshop
This week I attended the Censorship and Visual Culture: Ruling Images, Shaping Societies online workshop hosted by De Montfort University and organised by Claudio Monopoli and Gil Pasternak.
Speaking from my point of view it was an excellent combination of subjects and range of speakers, previous to this event I possibly thought censorship didn’t really affect me anymore, but it highlighted aspects of the unseen as well as the seen,
Of particular interest were:
· Individual approaches to censorship exhibited by Egyptian censors
· Ideas of censored archives via Instagram algorithms
· Explicit/Implicit ideas of censoring work
This event really highlights the greatness and advantages of using the online space with many speakers, as well as participants, from different time zones. It also greatly aided me to be able to participate really has fuelled my thinking in differing ways.
Many thanks for putting this event on, hopeful there are many more to come.
