Urgent Temporality: Introduction/New direction / New site / New practice

For a while now there has been a need for a new direction to my practice, this has been assisted by my MA studies at UCLAN.

For a bit of background for the last few years I have started to leave behind the commercial aspect of my work and move to the educational/creative side of photography. To further that I have added in an MA study in photography, this has advanced this exponentially.

The realisation that my work was changing has taken a number of years, and for want of a better phrase it’s moved to a more arts based practice, what this will pan out to be is a more transient ideal at the moment, looking forward to the journey and seeing what it’ll will bring.

Here I am with the new name and direction to symbolise this, can I introduce you to Urgent-Temporality.

It’s on Twitter, Instagram and Vimeo as a combination of Nathan and Urgent Temporality and as a website www.urgent-temporality.co.uk

The experimentation and directions are not limited to one area, moving image, more writing, familiar and different types of work will be here as well we’ll see how they fit together and work.

Some of the work will be quite basic as most new endeavours have but I’ll put them all here as well as all the experimentation that goes with that process.

The moving image side of work will be a jump, having seen through a still lens for years adding in moving is a different concept and challenge, reflecting on this I realised that the last time I took these sort of experimental steps, seeing what happens and moving into the new was about 30 odd years ago so it’s a little nerve racking and as the kids say it may be a bit cringe.

The idea is that l will be working on concepts, projects and ideas, exploring thoughts, personalities, events and theories. The MA has been invaluable to this and has shown me a different way to work and I’m looking forward to it, renewed interest in working methods and approaches as well as a more theoretical based practice should make some of the photography on first viewing look very strange to what I used to produce, but it’s all good and so be it.

There will be some success and some not, but I thank you for your viewing and any feedback you may have.

Here’s to the journey, here’s to love and here’s to you.

Nathan
