NMP 12 - Contextual

The reading for this module has been an interesting experience so far, the module is a mix of the technical and the creating and as such there are quite a mixture of books.

I’ve started on the reading list with New Media the Key Concepts by Gane and Beer which has been a read, i personally struggle with some of the more out-dated reverences or when they are introduced I know how it’s going to be, I appreciate that it’s very difficult to get a comprehensive text for something like New Media the discussion points are constantly changing and rearranging themselves.

The relevance of these has been the key to progression through the undestarnding of the context, I have also started to lightly read Understanding New Media by Siapera and New Media by Lister, Dovey, Giddings, Grant and Kelly to spread out the reading.

I’m just starting After Photography by Ritchin as well which seems to be feeding into more than one research strand which could be interesting.

I am greatly enjoying the research side of the module, time and energy is the only factors preventing me from doing more, I’m hooked on the research side to inform the practice….which is good for the aspirations of the PHD are strongly presenting themselves at the moment

Update The Ritchin book is great and definitely will inform my finals. Usage, hyperphotography and the last chapter on a quantum leap all look to inform my direction.
