Semester 3 - Images:Outtakes
At the beginning of this project when I had established the route but not the 3 structures that have appeared giving the images a thread which is random quirks, public house and places of petro-aesthetics, I had taken some test images to check the camera, development times, structure etc so have a couple of images from this that have not made the final cut but are nice images, that could work in different contexts or even for different projects.
The editing process always has rejects and maybe but no’s, these images then need a period of time to be looked at and maybe shown somewhere but my question is where do these images live?
I guess if a book gets done for this (still massively in 2 minds about this btw.) then they could live in an outtakes section or such like in that format, wonder if that will detract, especially if a majority decide that there’s better images in the outtake section
The images were edited for location and idea behind them, hence why some are quite close together and some are much further away. I did think about assigning specific point along the routes rather than the arbitrary manner in which the images were selected but decided against specificity in case these points were places of none specificity, so I did make an artistic imprint on these, maybe I’ll go back one day and do this to expand the project out. Think I would have to do that on foot or cycling though so as to measure the points.
Back to the shot discussion on these “outtakes” (is there a better word for these images?) thinking that possibly they could go as press shots or advertising shots for the show just so the work out there is not just facsimile of the show, something that needs to happen is the editing down and decision of how these images are going to be shown.
I have the seven shots which I think will be in gif form for marking purposes to get the idea across but have a few possibilities on how these images are to be shown which I’ll discuss in a later blog.
I do have a lovely idea on how I’m going to do this and will tease it here with the words if we can’t go to the spaces then the spaces shall come to us, is that suitably oblique but interesting for you?
Well I don’t want to curse it so as soon as it’s ready I will show it…
Speaking of the group show is hopefully happening in February 2021, where there will be all the MA students showing, I did have an idea to suggest that maybe instead of this final work we could take a theme and shot some work that way and have a plan for curation of the work but I think my fellow MA students will disown me this close to deadline, maybe I could bring it up afters??
Right I’m off to brave the macho, masculine bullshot that is DIY shops and what seems to be a really strange rule applied to Covid19 which I’ll bring up in alter blog !
