For want of better
Surely one of the purposes of education/knowledge/learning/development is surely the want of better?
The advancement of thought underpins society does it not?
I have a collected sense of thoughts coming up that seem to all fit under the banner of
‘For the want of better’
So I’m starting at occasional series of writings using this term, shortened to ‘FWoB’
I envisage these encompassing a range of subjects but with the touchstones of thought, pedagogy, photographic practices, research, creation, thought, rants and possible cries for help.
I’m currently reading an awful lot of thoughts, theories, ideas and contributions that seem progressive, uncanny, queer, provocative, challenging, bland, hypocritical and contributorily to something. Yet as I do that, I compare the contribution to the destruction of the world, the continued assault on intelligence in the media and a general sense of doom and feel that I must do something, surely mustn’t we all?
As Natalie Loveless states in ‘A Manifesto for Research-Creation: Making Art at the End of the World:
“What the future holds I cannot guess, nor do I want to. But what I can, want to and must do is move forward, one classroom, degree, article, book, conference, conversation, and artist research project at a time…”
To be continued…
