NMP 23 - feedback

I'm at the 3/4 stage finished and nearly there I've only got a couple of weeks to deadline so I've been seeking different areas of feedback without officially placing it anywhere, different people connected to me have seen and commented, difficult to know if I’ve had the complete truth or a softer version.

I must put on the record the excellent feedback my tutor has given me, it has been constructive and very helpful so none of this relates to any that I’ve been given professionally.

The question it raised to me was about the nature of feedback, in my professional life I give feedback to my students, it's always interesting seeing what they take from it and they act on it.

I'm now starting to see this from the other side as a student, the feedback has been very positive and very constructive which is what you want from it.

I’m now in the position of trying to work out what to take on board and what to act upon, it’s a fine balance between acting solely on it or adapting what I want my vision to be alongside it

What a path to walk along..

You never really want to seek criticism as it can land somewhere you didn’t expect, sometimes you're too harsh on yourself and sometimes others are too soft on you.

I know from the silence that i got from my other two videos that feedback is not forthcoming unless you specifically ask for it so with this being my final one I'm going to actually ask for specifics, see where that gets me

Reaction to feedback is also an interesting place to be you can’t criticise it because it’s someone point of view and well you did ask…

Seeking feedback is also complicated because i don’t exactly see where the piece is at the moment, it’s sort of a new media/cinema/short film/Vimeo/short etcetera…

an artistic moving image piece for consumption on the Internet and I wait to see what that how that is received and where it places itself, lets see what people pick up from it

I realise it’s a very saturated market and with the current climate everything is online with so much to view that I feel like it might get a little bit lost

Going to have to push these on my social media channel to get any sort of response but that will probably be after the deadline because it’s looming large.

There's only so much I can do from here, I've got the piece to a “finished” place, not sure anymore tinkering or adapting to things will improve it or sink it…I may be just rearranging the deck chairs so to speak…
