Semester 3 - Images: Start Process

Start process – driving round 01/07/20 idea from 21st of May 

Researching, reading and writing the ideas of new Topographies coupled with the lockdown status started the ideas of this project and then you get the phone call that you dread, my Mother rings me telling me the oven at her flat isn’t working, nightmare at the best of times but with lockdown then…….who knows when the council will be able to look at it and normal shopping day is tomorrow so need to get something sorted today, so off to big Sainsbury’s to get a microwave something I should have done years ago but with my family being traditional they didn’t want one, not even a freezer in their house.. So I start the drive into lockdown shopping, get the microwave without too much fuss then onto my Mums to deliver it and set it up, meanwhile the council have turned up and had a look at the oven and it turns out it’s just the grill that isn’t working so the oven works fine, right ok then I can deliver it tomorrow with the regular shopping phew

Now where am I and how do I get home?

Ok if you turn here you can take the A6 back to my house, that looks interesting though, not been out for a while so this looks interesting, normally have a camera with me but anyway wouldn’t be able to stop, ah isn’t that funny it looks just like a Baltz, am I seeing Baltz images cause I’m researching them?? Ah that looks like a pub my Dad had in the 90’s, you can see the petro-aesthetics at work there as well, would these places have been built with the car in mind or for the locals who walk there, how much stuff can you carry from a B&M though? You’d have to be quick with your Iceland shop before it defrosts. Goodness I haven’t seen a club like that in a while, haha Disco stores..Ok now I know where I am, starting to recognise the local, not lived here long so not had chance to explore this local, now we’re back to the familiar, they’ve really made that warehouse huge, next stop raw milk and that garden centre oh they’ve done that up, they’ve done lockdown well so far, hoping they get to reopen i bet, you can really social distance at a garden centre.

Now I know where I am, nearly home and back to writing, reading and researching.

So the idea starts with a drive out in these strange times to get a microwave. This happened in middle of lockdown when my focus was on the completion of the last two modules but something drew to this area so I’ll be thinking about revisiting at some point, will it fit with the project, will it work?
