UT- Covid19 Lockdown

UT Blog: Covid19/ Work/Making/Work

My blogs are a little (a lot) out of sync but thought I’d post this one now and here on the 1st of April, been in isolation for the last 12 days…and I think I’ve only just be able to write this as I’ve got my head round two aspects of online learning and resources, for me it’s both ends of the equation being a teacher and a student which has had advantages and challenges but think I’m getting on top of it… Famous last words I know…

All I’ve got to do is just get together some links, record some content, read my reading list, plan out next semester, work on lesson plans, factor in some other knowledge dissemination points, keep up with online learning option, make some work…..well you get the idea…

Got me thinking about how we work, a lot of peoples workways are based on the importance of presenteeism, the overarching fact that you have to be seen to be in and doing stuff, I’m sure that we will go back to this but I feel I’m actually more productive now without the 2+hours of commute, I manage yoga and running everyday although I still can’t find this extra time I’m supposed to be having to learn a language, learn a circus skill, present a YouTube channel or the such like.

If anything the last 12 days I’ve felt like I have less time than ever, perhaps it’s the exhaustion of the increased time sat in front of a screen trying to keep up varying levels of involvement in many different things and the welcome back to the world of micro management….who knows..

Anyway I have managed to do a lot of that and a lot of that I’ve failed quite miserably at so, swigs and round trees as the saying goes..

There’s a lot of pressure to be, do, dance, smile, work, keep this, keep that…

Listen to your own head if you need a lie-down in a dark room, binge on terrible tv, watch all the Statham movies in chronological order, work out how much wine is enough to get you through, then you do that (watch your units though).

Remember to look after yourself, stay in to save lives to save the NHS

Stay Safe

Have managed to produce some work tho…some of it’s here, including one I absolutely love and may feature prominently in my MA..

The actual definition of presenteeism is here, it’s slightly different but still very applicable to most..

presenteeism

/prɛznˈtiːɪzəm/ noun

1.    the practice of being present at one's place of work for more hours than is required, especially as a manifestation of insecurity about one's job.
