Semester 3 - Images: Towards a completed project.

So it’s deadline day, it has come together and the final submission consist of:

·      9 pieces of finished work both in High Res and Web Quality

·      Artist statement

·      Rational of the work

·      Slideshow Presentation

I fell that the work has come together very neatly,

I have interwoven a number of different ideas and subtext under the New Topographies theme that I explored for my extended research task.

Ideas such as local, glocal, locality, temporality, audiencing and viewpoint.

I have evaluated and explored a number of topics around the forefront of the photographic medium with ideas of viewing and photography as a performative action.

I have displayed and utilised concepts, ideas and technique through the exploration of space, what these spaces consist of, what these spaces looked like photographed and how that changes.

They stand above the aesthetics form other than being just nice images, I’ve combined theory, concepts and ideas in and around the photographic medium from ideas around aesthetics and aesthesis, with ideas around the nature of completion of photographic projects.

The production of the work has addressed critically ideas of space, poverty, use of land and ideas around the look of spaces and what happens within them and have expressed these in a creative and evaluative manner.

The presentation has been presented and I feel, I feel…

Well I’m not sure how I feel, I think the last 2 years have been building up to this, I’m happy with the work which is a big ask at this stage, the nature of the work, bland subject matter shot in New Topographical style but with an added artistry taken out means that the images at initial glance may not come across so well, everyone want the images to be great and have a wow factor but my choice of subject means that the reactions may not be that. Think the reactions to this will colour my feelings about it, I hope these images are kissed.

The final images that I’d chosen to represent the work are scaled down versions and scans, the final prints would hopefully be printed as cibachromes or possibly light panels if the cibachrome process doesn’t deliver the results I hope for.
